With a GSDP of ₹27.22 lakh crore, Tamil Nadu contributes 9.21% of India’s GDP despite having just 6% of the population. The per capita income (₹2.78 lakh) remains 1.6 times the national average, reflecting broad-based prosperity.
As India’s manufacturing powerhouse, Tamil Nadu leads in automobiles, textiles, and leather, has the second highest MSMEs (35.56 lakh enterprises), and disburses the most agricultural credit. It ranks #1 in the Social Progress Index, SDG Index, and Climate Action while achieving India’s lowest poverty rate (1.43%).
