DMK president M.K. Stalin condemned the abrupt transfer of Tamil Nadu State Election Commission Secretary Palanisamy, who was actively supervising preparatory arrangements to conduct civic elections in compliance with Supreme Court directives. Stalin demanded an explanation from the state administration as to why an official diligently carrying out judicial mandates was arbitrarily removed right before the notification of local body elections.
Stalin observed that this sudden bureaucratic shake-up exposes the ruling AIADMK's deep-seated anxiety regarding facing voters in grassroots local bodies. For over three years, the state regime has systematically suppressed democratic representation in panchayats, town panchayats, and municipal corporations by installing compliant special officers instead of holding elections. Disrupting the administrative leadership of the election commission appears to be a calculated strategy to frustrate court timelines and derail civic polling once again.
The opposition leader stated that such administrative manipulations undermine public faith in the electoral process and show contempt for judicial orders. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will fiercely oppose every authoritarian tactic deployed by the ruling regime to subvert grassroots democracy, demanding that elections proceed without further obstruction.
