DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound sorrow over the tragic demise of IIT Madras student Fathima Latheef, urging institutional leaders and education administrators to eradicate religious sectarianism from universities. Stalin stated that educational institutions should reflect the diverse colours and inclusive spirit of the national flag, where students from every background are nurtured with dignity, mutual respect, and equal constitutional rights.

Stalin warned against the dangerous trend of ideological polarization taking root within prestigious higher educational campuses. When educational spaces allow discriminatory attitudes, communal hostility, and harassment to persist unchecked, young minds face unbearable mental torment instead of academic growth. He emphasized that the loss of a bright scholar represents an intolerable indictment of institutional culture, demanding that universities establish independent ombudspersons and robust anti-harassment mechanisms.

The opposition leader called upon the Union and state governments to institute comprehensive structural oversight to ensure that campuses remain egalitarian and progressive.
