DMK president M.K. Stalin issued an earnest appeal to the government and society to eliminate manual scavenging entirely, declaring that forcing human beings to enter hazardous sewer lines contradicts the foundational values of the Dravidian movement. Stalin stressed that upholding human dignity and personal safety must guide public policy, urging municipal authorities across the state to deploy modern mechanized technology for sanitation maintenance.
Stalin emphasized that sanitation workers belong to vulnerable social groups who have historically borne the burden of oppressive caste occupations. Continuing manual cleaning practices in the modern era represents a grave failure of social responsibility and civic governance. He called upon engineers, urban local bodies, and civic research institutions to develop affordable automated machinery, specialized suction vehicles, and robotic cleaning tools to render human entry into sewers completely obsolete.
The DMK leader urged citizens and political organizations to unite in eradicating this inhumane practice from every village, town, and city. Stalin reaffirmed that the Dravidian movement will persistently champion the occupational safety, statutory rights, and comprehensive rehabilitation of sanitation workers until genuine human dignity and social respect are fully secured.
