DMK president M.K. Stalin urged the state administration to take prompt administrative measures to arrest skyrocketing onion prices, stressing that unchecked inflation in essential kitchen staples imposes severe financial hardship upon common citizens. Stalin pointed out that onions represent an indispensable dietary necessity for ordinary working-class families, and sharp price spikes directly destabilize household budgets across Tamil Nadu.
Stalin emphasized that ensuring uninterrupted availability of essential food commodities at affordable rates represents a foundational duty of any responsible government. He condemned the AIADMK administration for maintaining total passivity while private middlemen, hoarders, and market speculators artificially inflate vegetable prices to make unlawful windfall profits. Instead of monitoring supply chains and utilizing price stabilization funds, the state civil supplies machinery remains completely inert.
The opposition leader demanded that the state food and civil supplies department immediately open special market counters, utilize state cooperatives, and procure bulk stocks to supply onions at subsidized prices. Stalin warned that failing to curb essential commodity prices will trigger widespread public outrage against the incumbent administration's governance failures and persistent failure to protect poor families from crushing inflationary burdens.
