DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound outrage over recurring incidents of vandalism targeting iconic Tamil historical figures, citing the desecration of Periyar statues, attempts to paint Thiruvalluvar in sectarian saffron, and the recent defacement of Thiruvalluvar's statue in Pillayarpatti, Thanjavur. Stalin characterized the systematic disrespect shown toward those who dedicated their lives to Tamil linguistic pride and social equality as an intolerable pattern of provocation.
Stalin stated that the AIADMK administration, which directly controls the state police department, should hang its head in shame for failing to prevent repeated assaults on cultural landmarks. The state government's sluggish response and reluctance to identify and prosecute right-wing fringe elements encourage perpetrators to strike repeatedly with impunity. He asserted that allowing sectarian groups to insult Tamil icons is a direct consequence of the state regime's complete subservience to central political masters.
The opposition leader demanded the immediate arrest and strict prosecution under stringent statutory provisions of all individuals involved in desecrating statues. Stalin warned that the people of Tamil Nadu will not tolerate deliberate insults to their cultural icons, vowing that the DMK will vigorously defend the secular, rationalist legacy of Tamil thought.
