#DoctorsProtest

Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin urged the Tamil Nadu government to abandon coercive police tactics and immediately resolve the ongoing agitation of government medical practitioners through constructive dialogue. Stalin emphasized that rather than attempting to suppress the unified doctors' protest using police intimidation, the state administration has an urgent democratic obligation to recognize the suffering of poor patients and concede the doctors' legitimate career progression demands.

Stalin highlighted that government doctors and healthcare personnel form the foundational backbone of Tamil Nadu's renowned public healthcare infrastructure, serving millions of vulnerable citizens in rural and urban government hospitals. The striking doctors had been peacefully demanding dynamic assured career progression, promotional parity with central government doctors, and adequate staff recruitment to alleviate crushing workloads. Ignoring their longstanding statutory grievances has resulted in severe disruption of hospital services, leaving underprivileged patients in acute distress.

The opposition leader condemned the state government's callous apathy and authoritarian posture toward medical professionals. Stalin demanded that the Chief Minister personally intervene, invite representatives of government doctors' associations for immediate discussions, and fulfill their statutory demands to restore uninterrupted public healthcare services across the state.
