DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the state government for allowing private omnibus operators to fleece festival passengers traveling across Tamil Nadu for Deepavali celebrations. Highlighting an official admission where transport enforcement authorities conceded that ruling party politicians prevented them from acting against predatory bus operators, Stalin declared that such collusion proves the administration's total disregard for public welfare. He asserted that shielding private profiteering at the expense of working-class families demonstrates administrative decay.
Stalin noted that thousands of workers, students, and families journeying to their native towns were compelled to pay extortionate fares up to four times the standard rates. While passengers suffered extreme financial exploitation on highways, the state executive actively restrained statutory enforcement officers from impounding overcharging vehicles or penalizing errant operators. Stalin insisted that the state transport machinery must be unshackled immediately to enforce fare ceilings and protect travelers before the return rush begins.
The opposition leader demanded that the transport department deploy special flying squads, penalize predatory operators, and provide adequate state transport buses. He declared that an administration that protects transit mafias lacks moral legitimacy to govern.
