DMK president M.K. Stalin campaigned vigorously across the Nanguneri Assembly constituency, exposing the AIADMK government's complete failure to complete the vital Thamirabarani-Karumeniyar-Nambiyar river linking project. Stalin pointed out that this historic irrigation initiative was conceptualized and initiated under the DMK regime led by Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi to bring surplus water to drought-prone southern districts. However, the project was callously shelved and starved of funds for over eight years under the incumbent administration.
Stalin informed voters that the Chief Minister's sudden declaration promising to complete the scheme by 2020 was nothing more than an opportunistic election eyewash designed to deceive local farmers. He emphasized that had the AIADMK shown genuine concern for southern Tamil Nadu, the canal network would have been operational years ago, transforming arid tracts into fertile agricultural fields and securing reliable drinking water supplies for local rural communities.
The opposition leader promised that once the DMK returns to power, finishing the Thamirabarani-Karumeniyar-Nambiyar river link will be executed with top priority. He urged the electorate to elect the secular alliance candidate to revive stalled developmental projects throughout the region.
