DMK president M.K. Stalin warmly welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public remarks acknowledging Tamil as the oldest living language in human history. Stalin stated that recognizing Tamil's ancient antiquity is an essential historical truth that Tamils worldwide cherish with immense pride. He observed that mere verbal praise by central leaders must translate into concrete constitutional equality for all linguistic nationalities across the Indian Union.
Stalin called upon the Prime Minister to take decisive legislative action by declaring all twenty-two languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution as official languages of the Union. He argued that true cooperative federalism cannot exist while a single language enjoys privileged status at the expense of regional languages. Granting equal official status to all recognized tongues fulfills the democratic aspiration of diverse linguistic communities and strengthens national integrity through mutual respect.
Stalin reiterated that the DMK has historically spearheaded the struggle to protect linguistic rights against central imposition. He urged the Union Government to demonstrate genuine respect for Tamil by allocating adequate development funds and establishing linguistic equality across central administration, Parliament, and recruitment exams.
