Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin visited the archaeological excavation site at Keezhadi along the Vaigai river basin in Sivaganga district, characterizing the location as the sacred cradle of ancient Dravidian civilization. Examining terracotta structures, inscribed pottery, and urban artifacts unearthed by researchers, Stalin stated that scientific carbon dating conclusively establishes that literate Sangam Tamil society flourished as early as the sixth century BCE. He asserted that these monumental archaeological discoveries prove Indian history must be written starting from the Dravidian South.

Stalin praised archaeological researchers and Tamil scholars whose persistence brought Keezhadi's historical significance to international prominence despite earlier administrative delays by central authorities. He observed that Keezhadi provides undeniable physical evidence of an egalitarian, urbanized, and secular culture that maintained advanced trade links without religious markers. Stalin emphasized that understanding the depth of Tamil antiquities reshapes the understanding of subcontinent history, refuting narratives that marginalize peninsular civilizations.

He affirmed that the DMK remains committed to preserving archaeological treasures and establishing world-class museum facilities to showcase ancient Tamil artefacts. Stalin called upon central and state institutions to expand excavations across southern river basins to uncover the heritage of Dravidian ancestors.
