DMK president M.K. Stalin urged the Union Government to formally notify the ancient excavation site at Keezhadi as a centrally protected national monument. Stalin stated that scientific excavations along the Vaigai river basin have irrefutably demonstrated that Sangam Tamil society represents one of the world's most advanced classical urban civilizations. He insisted that the historical significance of these discoveries warrants immediate, comprehensive statutory preservation by the Archaeological Survey of India.
Stalin demanded that central authorities allocate dedicated financial resources to construct a world-class archaeological museum at Keezhadi to exhibit unearthed artefacts, inscribed potsherds, and urban masonry. He also urged the Ministry of Culture to establish an independent regional office of the Archaeological Survey of India headquartered in Madurai to oversee southern excavations. Stalin argued that past attempts to halt Keezhadi research and transfer committed archaeologists must be permanently reversed through robust institutional backing.
He stressed that protecting ancient Tamil antiquities is a national duty that honors the diverse historical foundation of the subcontinent. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently advocate for extensive archaeological research across Tamil Nadu to bring ancient Dravidian achievements to global recognition.
