DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the AIADMK administration for arresting agricultural leaders in Dharapuram who were peacefully protesting against the Power Grid Corporation's installation of high-voltage transmission towers across fertile farmlands. Stalin stated that farmers have been agitating for months seeking underground cabling to prevent the destruction of their agricultural livelihoods and property values. He denounced the state government for using coercive police force against struggling farmers instead of addressing their legitimate grievances.
Stalin demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all detained farmer federation leaders and the withdrawal of police cases filed against them. He argued that executing industrial infrastructure projects without obtaining the prior informed consent of affected landowners violates basic principles of democratic governance. Installing colossal electric pylons through agricultural fields permanently damages irrigation channels, restricts farming operations, and drastically reduces land compensation for vulnerable rural cultivators.
He urged the state government to immediately halt tower installations and convene constructive stakeholder talks with farmer representatives. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will stand firmly with Tamil Nadu farmers, demanding that power transmission lines be laid along highways or through underground cabling systems to protect agrarian livelihoods.
