The act of placing one of the seniormost political leaders in a jail within a jail is excessive, arbitrary and unlawful. https://t.co/Hv89BC6Lod

DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound concern and unequivocal condemnation over the detention of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and sitting Member of Parliament Dr. Farooq Abdullah under the draconian Public Safety Act. Stalin characterized the Union Government's decision to detain one of India's most senior constitutional parliamentarians as excessive, arbitrary, and fundamentally unlawful. He warned that suppressing mainstream democratic leadership severely imperils national integration and constitutional democracy.
Stalin observed that placing an eighty-one-year-old veteran leader who served as Union Cabinet Minister in severe isolation undermines democratic norms. Depriving elected representatives of basic civil liberties without transparent judicial trial violates core constitutional guarantees. Stalin pointed out that treating seasoned political figures who steadfastly defended Indian federalism as national security threats alienates regional populations and creates administrative lawlessness in the Kashmir valley.
He urged the Union Government to revoke the detention order against Farooq Abdullah and release all detained political representatives immediately. Stalin affirmed that the DMK stands in unwavering solidarity with democratic forces in Jammu and Kashmir, demanding the restoration of civil liberties, parliamentary representation, and genuine federal dialogue across all Indian states.
