Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin announced that the party will stage massive condemnation demonstrations across all district headquarters in Tamil Nadu on September 20 to resist the Union Government's aggressive Hindi imposition. Stalin conveyed that the decision was unanimously adopted during a crucial meeting of the DMK High-Level Executive Committee. He declared that the demonstration aims to halt the central ruling dispensation's sectarian agenda, which threatens national unity by subjugating regional languages.

Stalin pointed out that recent declarations by central ministers promoting Hindi as a unifying national language fundamentally violate India's multilingual reality and constitutional federalism. He stressed that treating non-Hindi speaking citizens as second-class subjects undermines the democratic bond between diverse linguistic communities. Stalin reaffirmed that Tamil Nadu has historically rejected linguistic hegemony, recalling that sacrifices made during previous anti-Hindi agitations remain an indelible source of inspiration for the Dravidian movement.

He called upon party cadres, alliance partners, students, and democratic citizens to participate in large numbers to demonstrate collective resistance. Stalin warned that the DMK will spearhead an unyielding national campaign if the Centre attempts to erode the constitutional status of regional languages.
