DMK president M.K. Stalin paid respectful floral tributes at the memorial of renowned freedom fighter and social justice warrior Tyagi Immanuel Sekaran on his memorial anniversary. Stalin honored Sekaran's historic legacy, noting that he founded the Depressed Classes Liberation Movement and waged courageous battles to eradicate the scourge of untouchability. He highlighted that Immanuel Sekaran regarded national independence and social emancipation as two indivisible eyes, dedicating his life to establishing dignity for marginalized Dalit communities.
Stalin emphasized that the Dravidian movement has always walked hand in hand with struggles for Dalit liberation, recognizing that political freedom remains incomplete without absolute social equality. He recalled that former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi instituted numerous welfare initiatives, housing schemes, and educational reservations specifically aimed at uplifting depressed communities and preserving the memory of subaltern heroes. Stalin stated that remembering Sekaran's martyrdom is essential to renew collective resistance against caste-based discrimination.
He urged all sections of society to reject communal and caste polarization and actively foster fraternal bonds across rural and urban communities. Stalin pledged that the DMK will perpetually stand as an unyielding bulwark protecting Dalit rights and communal harmony.
