DMK president M.K. Stalin criticized Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for undertaking an extravagant overseas tour to Israel under the pretext of studying water conservation technologies while neglecting vital irrigation infrastructure in Tamil Nadu. Stalin pointed out that while the Chief Minister travels abroad, over twenty thousand cusecs of precious surplus floodwaters are draining wastefully into the Bay of Bengal through the Kollidam river. He condemned the administration's chronic failure to implement long-delayed barrage and check-dam projects across key river basins.
Stalin recalled that five years prior, the state government had grandly announced construction of comprehensive barrages and storage structures across the Kollidam to harness surplus floodwaters and recharge declining water tables in the delta region. However, those announcements remained confined to paper due to bureaucratic lethargy and political indifference. Stalin stated that executing these domestic check-dam projects would immediately secure drinking water supplies and irrigation requirements for thousands of acres without foreign junkets.
He demanded that the state government immediately allocate funds and execute the pending Kollidam barrage projects on a war footing. Stalin stressed that practical governance requires executing local water conservation solutions rather than staging ceremonial overseas tours.
