DMK president M.K. Stalin celebrated the Railway Board's decision allowing departmental General Departmental Competitive Examinations to be conducted in regional languages including Tamil, characterizing it as a momentous victory for the DMK's persistent advocacy. Stalin stated that restricting recruitment and promotional examinations to English and Hindi had long created an unfair barrier for qualified Tamil employees working within the Southern Railway. He commended party parliamentarians and language activists whose vigorous representations forced the central authorities to concede.
Stalin highlighted that conducting departmental tests in regional languages ensures that native railway personnel receive fair promotion opportunities within their home zones. Denying employees the right to take examinations in their mother tongue constituted a grave linguistic injustice that hindered career progression and damaged administrative efficiency in public utility operations. Stalin affirmed that this concession demonstrates that united and principled political pressure can successfully safeguard linguistic rights against central rigidity.
He declared that the DMK will persistently champion the linguistic rights of Tamils across all central public sector undertakings, postal networks, and banking institutions. Stalin pledged that the party will continue fighting until Tamil is granted complete constitutional equality across Union Government departments.
