The instructions given by the Union Government to conduct General Departmental Competitive Examinations for Railway employees in only English and Hindi goes against the premise of language equality.

I urge the Minister to immediately withdraw the instructions. 1/2 @PiyushGoyal https://t.co/0lr0XL2pMU

Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin urged Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal to withdraw instructions limiting General Departmental Competitive Examinations for railway personnel to English and Hindi. Stalin stated that restricting exam languages undermines the principle of linguistic equality, placing railway employees from non-Hindi speaking states at a disadvantage.

The DMK leader pointed out that thousands of skilled railway workers across southern states face unfair promotional hurdles because of restrictive language criteria. Stalin noted that technical proficiency and administrative dedication, rather than fluency in Hindi or English, should determine career advancement within Indian Railways. He argued that central ministries must respect India's multilingual reality by permitting candidates to write recruitment tests in their respective regional mother tongues.

Stalin cautioned that continued linguistic bias damages employee morale and threatens the cooperative spirit essential for national transportation operations. He called for immediate administrative revisions allowing departmental examinations in all official languages recognized under the Constitution. Stalin emphasized that the Dravidian movement remains steadfast in protecting state linguistic rights, warning that attempts to impose linguistic uniformity in central government departments will face persistent democratic opposition.
