DMK president M.K. Stalin issued a stern warning against Tamil Nadu joining the central government's One Nation One Ration Card initiative, cautioning that it threatens to dismantle the state's pioneering universal Public Distribution System. Stalin criticized the ruling AIADMK government for surrendering state autonomy to central dictates, arguing that integrating into the central scheme jeopardizes food security for millions of vulnerable families.
Stalin emphasized that Tamil Nadu's universal ration system, nurtured and expanded under former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, provides subsidized food grains to all cardholders without exclusionary targeting. He warned that centralizing ration card operations under a single national framework would create administrative chaos, disrupt local grain distribution, and leave marginalized households without essential provisions. Stalin pointed out that surrender of state authority over food distribution undermines cooperative federalism.
The DMK president demanded that the state administration safeguard Tamil Nadu's distinctive public distribution model instead of succumbing to central pressure. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will resist any policy that compromises state welfare sovereignty, pledging unyielding support to defend the universal food security architecture that protects underprivileged families across Tamil Nadu.
