DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed deep gratitude to national opposition leaders and Members of Parliament who participated in the massive demonstration organized by the DMK at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The demonstration was convened to defend constitutional democracy and human rights by demanding the immediate release of political leaders, former chief ministers, and public representatives arbitrarily detained in Jammu and Kashmir following the revocation of Article 370.
Stalin emphasized that the multi-party demonstration reflected broad national unity against authoritarian central actions that erode federalism and democratic principles. By placing elected representatives under indefinite house arrest and imposing severe communication blackouts, the Union government suspended fundamental civil liberties and silenced the voice of local citizens. Stalin maintained that a healthy parliamentary democracy cannot tolerate the suppression of political dialogue or the unilateral dismantling of established state rights without consulting elected legislatures.
Commending the solidarity displayed by diverse regional and national parties, Stalin reiterated that the DMK will persistently lead resistance against unconstitutional central measures. He urged the Union administration to restore normalcy, release all political detainees, and respect the democratic aspirations of Jammu and Kashmir residents.
