DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for ordering the police arrest of farmers who sought an appointment to present legitimate grievances regarding the controversial Salem-Chennai Eight-Lane Green Corridor expressway project. Stalin noted the stark contradiction in Palaniswami claiming to be an agrarian leader while deploying state police forces to muzzle agriculturalists whose fertile ancestral lands, wells, and livelihood assets are being forcibly acquired.
Stalin criticized the state leadership for pursuing destructive infrastructure projects against popular will merely to secure superficial praise in media advertisements and conceal systemic administrative failures. The proposed expressway corridor threatens thousands of acres of productive agricultural fields, coconut groves, and environmentally sensitive forested foothills across several districts. Stalin argued that genuine developmental governance must balance modern transit infrastructure with farmer consent, ecological preservation, and equitable compensation rather than trampling over rural livelihoods.
Calling for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained farmers, Stalin demanded that the AIADMK administration halt aggressive land acquisition measures. He affirmed that the DMK firmly stands in solidarity with affected cultivators and will resist any coercive project that threatens rural survival.
