DMK president M.K. Stalin issued a serious assessment of India's macroeconomic distress, emphasizing that credible empirical data emerging across key productive sectors, particularly the automobile industry, points to deep and undeniable structural distress. Stalin cautioned that continuing to deny economic reality threatens national productivity and employment, calling upon the Union government to abandon complacency and implement targeted fiscal and monetary interventions to stimulate sustainable economic revival.
Highlighting the acute vulnerabilities confronting manufacturing belts, Stalin noted that major automobile manufacturing plants and ancillary component units located across Tamil Nadu and other industrial hubs have implemented prolonged production shutdowns. Reduced consumer purchasing power, unviable tax rates under the Goods and Services Tax framework, and liquidity constraints in banking and shadow financing have paralyzed supply chains. This downturn has precipitated unprecedented layoffs, rendering hundreds of thousands of contractual and permanent industrial workers jobless.
Stalin stressed that economic recovery requires pragmatic policymaking, transparent acknowledgment of sectoral distress, and decisive stimulus packages directed toward manufacturing and small businesses. He urged central policymakers to collaborate closely with industrial associations and state authorities to protect jobs and rebuild consumer demand nationwide.
