Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin demanded that the AIADMK administration convene the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly without delay to re-enact legislative bills seeking permanent exemption from the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Stalin accused the state government of collusion with the Union BJP dispensation, pointing out that state authorities suppressed vital legislative debate transcripts from judicial scrutiny, thereby jeopardizing the medical education prospects of thousands of rural and vernacular-medium students.

Stalin explained that NEET operates as an unfair filter that systematically discriminates against underprivileged students who cannot afford exorbitant private coaching classes. By bypassing state-board school curricula, the centralized examination dismantles Tamil Nadu's equitable medical admissions framework, which historically rewarded consistent academic performance in secondary schooling. Withholding critical assembly documentation and meekly accepting central rejection undermines the collective will of the people and the sovereign dignity of the state legislature.

Insisting that administrative delay is no longer acceptable, Stalin urged the state cabinet to re-adopt the exemption bills unanimously in the assembly and dispatch them directly to the President of India. He reaffirmed that the DMK will unreservedly fight to scrap NEET and preserve state jurisdiction over higher education.
