DMK president M.K. Stalin extended warm commendations to elderly couple Shanmugavel and Senthamarai from Kalyanipuram in Tirunelveli district, hailing their extraordinary bravery in fighting off armed robbers who attacked them at their farmhouse. While praising the senior citizens for their exemplary presence of mind and courage, Stalin observed that their desperate resistance underscores a deeply troubling collapse of public safety and effective police protection across Tamil Nadu under the AIADMK regime.
Stalin noted that recurring incidents of violent robbery, daytime burglaries, and assaults on vulnerable senior citizens in rural areas reveal grave administrative lapses in routine police patrolling and intelligence gathering. When law-abiding citizens are forced to fend for themselves with household objects against armed criminals, it demonstrates that public confidence in state security mechanisms has severely eroded. Stalin criticized the ruling political leadership for misusing law enforcement agencies for partisan political surveillance rather than prioritizing grassroots community policing and crime prevention.
Saluting the heroic courage of Shanmugavel and Senthamarai, Stalin urged the state government to honor the couple officially. He demanded that police authorities intensify rural vigilance, establish round-the-clock patrol networks, and guarantee safety for vulnerable elderly residents throughout the state.
