I urge the President of India to not precipitate the situation and not take any further steps in this regard until a democratically elected Government is formed there.
The DMK stands with its Kashmiri brothers and sisters and will oppose any assault on federal structure.
DMK president M.K. Stalin issued an urgent, impassioned appeal to the President of India, requesting the head of state not to precipitate the delicate constitutional situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Stalin urged the President to withhold assent and halt further administrative restructuring until an authentic, democratically elected legislative assembly is reconstituted in the state to deliberate upon the profound constitutional and territorial alterations proposed by the Union government.
Reiterating the DMK's historic role as a vanguard of state autonomy and constitutional federalism, Stalin declared that the party stands firmly in fraternal solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Enacting momentous territorial bifurcations and abrogating special constitutional provisions while elected representatives remain incarcerated and citizens are subjected to security curfews represents a grave assault on India's federal structure. Stalin maintained that bypassing the consent of the governed degrades democratic principles and damages trust between the Union and constituent states.
Stalin warned that overriding federal guarantees undermines the foundational compact upon which diverse princely territories and provinces integrated into the Indian Union. He pledged that the DMK will persistently oppose central measures undermining state sovereignty and democratic rights.
