DMK president M.K. Stalin issued a trenchant critique of the Union Government's draft National Education Policy 2019, lodging an uncompromising objection on behalf of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. Stalin registered his formal protest with the Prime Minister's Office, declaring that the proposed national framework undermines constitutional federalism, disenfranchises underprivileged students, and imposes cultural uniformity across India.
Stalin asserted that the draft policy systematically promotes Hindi imposition through structured language mandates, directly violating the bilingual policy successfully practiced in Tamil Nadu for decades. He argued that the centralizing provisions, including standardized national examinations and centralized regulatory bodies, erect formidable barriers against rural, backward, and marginalized students pursuing higher education. Stalin emphasized that education is an instrument of social justice and regional empowerment, which cannot be subordinated to a monolithic, market-driven central syllabus.
Calling upon democratic forces nationwide to resist the draft policy, Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently defend state autonomy in educational policymaking. He demanded that the Union Government abandon coercive centralization, respect the federal distribution of constitutional powers, and preserve regional language rights across all educational institutions in the country.
