Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed deep alarm over a violent altercation among college students in Chennai that resulted in seven youth sustaining serious machete injuries in broad daylight. Stalin pointed out that such brazen violence occurring openly on busy city streets in the state capital exposes the acute deterioration of law and order under the AIADMK administration led by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who holds the Home portfolio.

Stalin emphasized that the open wielding of lethal weapons by young students in public transit zones indicates a total breakdown of police intelligence and deterrent vigilance. He criticized the state government for deploying police personnel primarily for VIP escorts and political surveillance while ordinary citizens and commuters are left vulnerable to street violence. Stalin asked what greater humiliation the Chief Minister could face when educational institutions and urban transit spaces become arenas of unchecked bloodshed.

He demanded that the police department take stern, impartial legal action against all perpetrators and enforce preventive safety measures across educational hubs. Stalin affirmed that public security and student welfare remain paramount, calling for institutional accountability to restore civil safety in Tamil Nadu.
