DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound outrage over the State Election Commission seeking yet another three-month extension to conduct local body elections in Tamil Nadu. Stalin characterized the commission as an extension-seeking body that continually postpones grassroots democratic elections to shield the ruling AIADMK from inevitable electoral defeat. He questioned whether local municipal governance had become the private enterprise of Municipal Administration Minister S.P. Velumani.

Stalin emphasized that democratic decentralization has been paralyzed across the state for over three years due to the absence of elected mayors, municipal councilors, and village panchayat presidents. As a consequence of this prolonged vacuum, basic civic services including water supply, drainage clearance, road repairs, and sanitation have suffered catastrophic decay, while substantial central development grants to local bodies remain withheld. Stalin urged the Governor of Tamil Nadu to intervene immediately and demand an explanation from the state government for repeatedly obstructing constitutional mandate.

He asserted that the ruling AIADMK fears facing the electorate because public anger over civic mismanagement is palpable across urban and rural wards. Stalin pledged that the DMK will persistently fight through legal and democratic avenues to restore representative local governance.
