DMK president M.K. Stalin articulated a principled defense of affirmative action, emphasizing that reservation is not a poverty alleviation program but a vital constitutional right guaranteed to historically oppressed and socially backward communities. Stalin asserted that Tamil Nadu must resolutely reject the central government's ten percent quota for economically weaker sections among forward castes to safeguard its proud heritage of social justice.
Stalin emphasized that the Dravidian movement has fought for over a century to secure educational and employment opportunities for communities systematically denied institutional representation by caste hierarchies. He pointed out that equating economic criteria with caste-based oppression distorts the constitutional foundations established by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Periyar E.V. Ramasamy. Stalin warned that implementing the ten percent quota in Tamil Nadu would undermine the state's pioneering 69 percent reservation framework and erode the hard-won gains of backward, most backward, and scheduled communities.
He called upon all democratic and progressive forces in the state to resist any dilution of social justice principles. Stalin reaffirmed the DMK's unyielding resolve to defend the 69 percent reservation policy and preserve social equity for future generations.
