Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly criticized the ruling AIADMK government and the central administration following disclosures that the Union government rejected Tamil Nadu's legislative bills seeking exemption from the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. Stalin emphasized that withholding this critical rejection from the state legislature directly insults the democratic mandate of Tamil Nadu's citizens and undermines the foundational principles of Indian federalism.

Stalin noted that the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly had unanimously passed statutory legislation to protect rural and government school students from the detrimental effects of NEET. By concealing New Delhi's negative decision from elected lawmakers, the state administration forfeited opportunities to re-enact the legislation or initiate decisive legal interventions. Stalin stressed that medical admissions in Tamil Nadu must reflect genuine social equity rather than centralized standardized tests that disadvantage regional candidates.

Calling out the state leadership's reluctance to confront the central government, Stalin demanded that the administration shed its timid posture. He insisted that if the ruling regime lacks the resolve to reprimand central authorities, it must at least vigorously advocate for the state's legitimate demand. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently champion the state's educational autonomy across all constitutional and public platforms.
