DMK president M.K. Stalin condemned the severe dereliction of duty by both the central government and the Karnataka administration, pointing out that Karnataka had failed to release Tamil Nadu's mandated share of 40.43 thousand million cubic feet of water for the months of June and July as stipulated by final tribunal awards. Stalin criticized the AIADMK state government for its timid reluctance to assertively challenge the upper riparian state and the Union government, thereby plunging the Cauvery delta into catastrophic agrarian distress.
Stalin emphasized that the delay in releasing Cauvery water has crippled the Kuruvai paddy cultivation across Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam districts, pushing delta farmers to the brink of financial ruin. He called upon the Union government to immediately appoint a full-time, independent permanent chairman to the Cauvery Water Management Authority rather than maintaining temporary bureaucratic oversight that dilutes regulatory enforcement. Stalin urged New Delhi to issue an immediate binding directive compelling Karnataka to discharge Tamil Nadu's legitimate water allocation without further delay.
He affirmed that the DMK will persistently mobilize public and legislative pressure to ensure that Tamil Nadu's riparian entitlements are fully secured.
