DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the brutal and unprovoked physical assault on working journalists by ruling AIADMK functionaries during a government school laptop distribution function in Erode. Stalin expressed outrage that ruling party cadres, including the son of sitting legislator K.V. Ramalingam, physically attacked press photographers and reporters who were discharging their professional duties to cover student protests and administrative lapses at the venue.
Stalin asserted that the violent attack on media personnel represents a flagrant assault on the freedom of the press and democratic accountability in Tamil Nadu. He condemned local police personnel for standing as passive onlookers while journalists were assaulted, noting that police subservience to ruling politicians has severely compromised professional policing and public safety across the state. Stalin pointed out that students at the venue were peacefully inquiring about delayed welfare laptop disbursements, which the ruling party attempted to suppress through brute intimidation.
Demanding immediate criminal registration and exemplary arrests of all perpetrators, Stalin insisted that disciplinary action must also be initiated against the complicit police officers. He affirmed that the DMK will vigorously defend journalistic freedom and democratic dissent.
