DMK president M.K. Stalin sharply criticized Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami following the NITI Aayog governing council meeting in New Delhi, asserting that the Chief Minister had completely failed to champion Tamil Nadu's vital interests and surrendered state rights before the central leadership. Stalin stated that the people of Tamil Nadu and political history will never forgive the ruling regime for returning empty-handed without strongly asserting the state's urgent demands on critical inter-state disputes.
Stalin pointed out that the Chief Minister had a constitutional forum to forcefully demand the release of Tamil Nadu's statutory Cauvery water share, insist on an immediate halt to Karnataka's unauthorized Mekedatu dam project, and urge presidential assent for bills exempting the state from NEET. Instead of articulating these non-negotiable issues with conviction, the state leadership adopted a meek posture to avoid displeasing the Union government. Stalin noted that this repeated surrender of regional autonomy undermines Tamil Nadu's federal stature and inflicts immense economic damage on farmers and students.
He declared that true regional leadership requires the courage to defend state sovereignty against central encroachments. Stalin reiterated that the DMK will continue to fight fearlessly for Tamil Nadu's constitutional entitlements.
