DMK president M.K. Stalin launched a searing critique of the state local administration department, questioning why Chennai had been pushed into an unprecedented economic and social crisis where schools, educational institutions, eateries, and major commercial hubs were forced to shut down due to total water exhaustion. Stalin highlighted that several prominent information technology companies in the city had directed thousands of employees to work from home, demonstrating the severe collapse of urban civic infrastructure.
Stalin asserted that the municipal administration minister, immersed in allegations of corruption and administrative inertia, possessed no meaningful explanation or practical plan to resolve Chennai's acute water deficit. He noted that the capital city's primary drinking water reservoirs had completely dried up because the government squandered years without desilting reservoirs, plugging transmission leaks, or expediting the construction of new desalination facilities. Stalin emphasized that when basic civic amenities collapse in an industrial metropolis, thousands of small business owners, hospitality workers, and daily wage earners face immediate financial ruin.
Demanding full accountability and emergency water supply, Stalin warned the government that citizens will not tolerate continued complacency amidst such widespread urban distress.
