DMK president M.K. Stalin urged the state government to immediately convene the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to deliberate upon the catastrophic drinking water scarcity gripping both urban centers and rural habitations across the state. Stalin pointed out that the AIADMK administration consistently exhibits an evasive posture, habitually refusing to initiate legislative debates on pressing public hardships or provide transparent answers to opposition inquiries regarding administrative failures.
Stalin emphasized that democratic institutions exist primarily to confront societal crises through transparent legislative discourse and coordinated executive action. He highlighted that millions of citizens in Chennai, suburban municipalities, and interior districts were suffering acute distress due to dried-up water sources, depleting groundwater tables, and exorbitant charges demanded by private water tanker syndicates. Stalin noted that instead of addressing the emergency on a war footing, government ministers were actively downplaying the crisis to avoid legislative accountability.
He declared that the opposition legislature party will demand comprehensive explanations regarding unspent water infrastructure funds and neglected reservoir desilting works. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will persistently exert constitutional pressure to ensure that clean drinking water is provided to every resident.
