DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the AIADMK government for its chronic failure to release irrigation water from the Mettur reservoir on the traditional June 12 date for the eighth consecutive year, causing immense despair among farmers across the Cauvery delta. Stalin questioned what perverse satisfaction the ruling dispensation derived from systematically destroying the livelihoods of lakhs of delta farmers and agricultural laborers who depend entirely on timely Kuruvai short-term paddy cultivation for their economic survival.

Stalin highlighted that consecutive years of missing the Kuruvai crop season had trapped delta agrarian households in crippling indebtedness, rural distress, and poverty. He criticized the state administration for failing to take proactive legal and diplomatic measures with Karnataka and the central government to ensure the timely release of Tamil Nadu's mandated water share. Stalin pointed out that the government had also failed to implement comprehensive desilting of delta canals, rivers, and drainage channels, leaving the irrigation distribution network in complete disrepair.

Demanding immediate executive intervention to ensure water distribution and grant special agricultural relief packages, Stalin insisted that if the government fails to act, ministers must apologize to farmers.
