DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound anguish and grave concern over the tragic deaths of innocent patients at the Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital following an unmanaged power outage. Stalin attributed the fatal catastrophe directly to the gross negligence of the state administration and the health department, calling it a horrifying manifestation of systemic collapse within Tamil Nadu's public healthcare infrastructure.
Stalin emphasized that critical hospital units such as intensive care facilities and trauma wards must maintain uninterrupted power supply through automated generator backup systems. The failure of backup generators during a routine electrical disruption exposed fatal administrative lapses and a total absence of emergency preparedness. Patients dependent on life-support ventilators suffocated to death while authorities attempted to downplay the tragedy instead of accepting responsibility. Stalin stated that Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami must take full governmental accountability for this administrative failure, initiate an independent inquiry, and take stringent action against negligent officials.
Stalin demanded immediate justice and fair financial compensation for the bereaved families. He urged the government to overhaul emergency safety protocols across all state-run hospitals to ensure that patient safety is never compromised.
