DMK president M.K. Stalin issued an impassioned appeal to the electorate to vote decisively for the Rising Sun symbol in the assembly bye-elections, pledging that a DMK administration will restore dignity and financial security to millions of struggling handloom and powerloom weavers across Tamil Nadu. Stalin stated that traditional textile weaving, the second-largest employment generator in the state after agriculture, was facing an unprecedented existential crisis due to government apathy and punitive taxation.
Stalin highlighted the devastating impact of unscientific GST rates on yarn and fabrics, soaring power tariffs, and persistent yarn price volatility that had forced thousands of weaving looms to shut down across Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, and Madurai districts. Weaving families were pushed into crippling indebtedness while state-owned procurement agencies like Co-optex delayed payments and curtailed procurement quotas. Stalin promised that a DMK government will provide subsidized electricity, establish yarn banks to stabilize raw material costs, waive crushing weaver loans, and expand procurement of uniform and welfare clothing through cooperative societies.
Stalin affirmed that the DMK will champion the revival of the handloom and textile sectors to guarantee stable wages and preserve regional heritage.
