DMK president M.K. Stalin conducted an extensive, interactive village-level consultation with residents, farmers, salt pan laborers, and women's self-help groups across several rural hamlets in the Ottapidaram constituency of Thoothukudi district. Stalin engaged in informal discussions with villagers gathered under village banyan trees, hearing directly about the severe challenges facing their everyday existence due to prolonged government neglect.
Local residents expressed deep resentment over acute drinking water scarcity, explaining that municipal tankers arrived irregularly and private water vendors charged extortionate rates. Women from agricultural households highlighted that repeated monsoon failures and lack of canal desilting had devastated dryland farming, forcing families to migrate to distant industrial cities for low-paying manual labor. Salt pan workers described hazardous working conditions, lack of foot protection, and complete absence of health check-up camps or housing assistance. Stalin attentively documented each grievance, assuring the residents that the DMK prioritized grassroots welfare above all.
Stalin affirmed that participatory democracy requires continuous consultation with ordinary citizens. He pledged that a DMK government will address Ottapidaram's drinking water needs and establish dedicated welfare programs for unorganized workers across the state.
