DMK president M.K. Stalin extended heartfelt May Day greetings to the working classes, labor unions, and toiling masses across the world and Tamil Nadu. Stalin reaffirmed that whether serving in government or working consistently in the opposition, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has steadfastly remained a dependable ally and resolute champion of workers' rights, social welfare, and economic security.
Stalin recalled the landmark contributions of DMK patriarch Kalaignar Karunanidhi, who declared May 1 a paid public holiday in Tamil Nadu and established numerous unorganized workers' welfare boards that pioneered social security for construction workers, auto drivers, weavers, and agricultural laborers. In contrast, under the current Union BJP government and state AIADMK administration, labor laws were being diluted, contract labor exploitation was proliferating, and workers' statutory rights to collective bargaining were being systematically dismantled. He condemned the anti-worker economic policies that enriched corporate conglomerates while suppressing real wages.
Stalin pledged that upon assuming power, the DMK will revitalize all labor welfare boards, guarantee regular, timely pension payouts, ensure occupational safety standards, and vigorously defend working-class dignity and labor welfare against regressive policies statewide.
