DMK president M.K. Stalin spearheaded an intensive and intimate grassroots campaign in the Ottapidaram assembly constituency, conducting traditional "thinnai" (porch) discussions with village families in support of Secular Progressive Alliance candidate M.C. Shanmugaiah. Sitting on the verandas of rural homes alongside village elders, farmers, women, and youth, Stalin engaged in close personal conversations about the pressing problems confronting rural habitations across Thoothukudi district.
Villagers voiced deep dissatisfaction over prolonged drinking water scarcity, unmaintained village roads, lack of streetlights, and complete absence of veterinary dispensaries for livestock. Farming households cultivating pulses and millets lamented that their fields suffered without reliable irrigation, while crop damage caused by drought received neither assessment nor financial relief from the state government. Stalin emphasized that direct porch-level dialogue with citizens embodies the democratic ethos of the DMK, enabling leadership to comprehend rural realities without bureaucratic mediation.
Stalin gave an unconditional pledge to the villagers that every legitimate grievance articulated during these thinnai interactions will be comprehensively addressed by an incoming DMK administration. He appealed for overwhelming, decisive public support under the Rising Sun symbol in the bye-election.
