DMK president M.K. Stalin condemned the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission for repeatedly delaying local body elections by seeking another three-month extension from the courts. Stalin labeled the commission an obedient mouthpiece of the ruling AIADMK government, pointing out that both entities refused to reform despite stern rebukes, adverse orders, and explicit deadlines delivered by the judiciary.
Stalin emphasized that the prolonged absence of elected municipal councils and village panchayats paralyzed grassroots civic administration across the state. In the absence of local representatives, essential basic amenities including drinking water supply, rural road maintenance, public sanitation, and mosquito eradication collapsed entirely. Ordinary citizens were left without accessible democratic recourse to voice their complaints, while unmonitored bureaucrats mismanaged development funds allocated for rural and urban wards.
Stalin demanded that the Election Commission conduct local body polls immediately without manufacturing further excuses or procedural delays. Democratic decentralization forms the bedrock of public administration, and denying people their right to local governance severely damages grassroots democracy. He insisted that holding prompt civic polls remains the only credible mechanism to resolve accumulating community grievances across Tamil Nadu.
