DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound shock and grief over the tragic death of seven devotees during a devastating crowd stampede at a temple festival near Thuraiyur in Tiruchirappalli district. Stalin conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members, wishing a speedy recovery to numerous pilgrims who sustained injuries during the chaotic crush of worshippers gathered for the annual event.
Stalin highlighted that large religious gatherings drawing thousands of devotees require meticulous planning, effective crowd dispersal routes, and adequate emergency medical amenities. The failure to anticipate high pilgrim turnout and provide sufficient barricades demonstrated alarming administrative oversight and deficient on-ground coordination. Devotees gathering in good faith to celebrate traditional religious festivals should never find their lives placed in mortal danger due to deficient civic preparation and inadequate protective policing.
Stalin urged the Tamil Nadu police and the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department to immediately reinforce comprehensive security guidelines for all major religious events. Adequate crowd management systems, emergency medical aid stations, and clearly marked exit corridors must be made mandatory to avert similar heartbreaking tragedies in the future across Tamil Nadu.
