DMK president M.K. Stalin raised trenchant questions regarding the tragic state-sponsored massacre in Thoothukudi, demanding to know who gave the direct executive command to open fire with sniper rifles on unarmed civilians protesting against the toxic Sterlite copper smelter. Stalin questioned whether the horrifying shooting order was issued personally by Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami, his Chief Secretary, or Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He affirmed that regardless of who sanctioned the atrocity, the electorate will deliver their verdict and democratic punishment on April 18.
Stalin recalled that thirteen innocent lives, including young student Snowlin, were brutally snuffed out by police snipers perched on top of vans, while dozens more suffered life-altering bullet injuries. Despite this barbaric massacre, Chief Minister Palaniswami had shamelessly claimed in television interviews that he only learned about the incident through television news channels. The state government had actively engaged in a cover-up, shielding senior police officers and political bosses while slapping false criminal cases against grieving families and local activists.
Stalin declared that a DMK administration will ensure full judicial accountability, punish the perpetrators, compensate victims adequately, and permanently ensure Sterlite never reopens.
