DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed a massive election campaign rally in the Tenkasi parliamentary constituency, campaigning with great vigor for young DMK candidate Dhanush M. Kumar. Stalin emphasized that Tenkasi, renowned for its rich agricultural heritage, scenic foothill ecology, and hardworking cottage industry laborers, had been completely forsaken by both the central BJP government and the state AIADMK administration over the preceding eight years.

Stalin highlighted the crippling crisis facing hundreds of thousands of beedi rolling workers, predominantly women from poor households across Tenkasi, Alangulam, and Sankarankoil. The imposition of an exorbitant 28 percent GST rate on beedies by the Modi government had destroyed the indigenous cottage sector, driving small manufacturers into bankruptcy and depriving poor families of daily sustenance. In addition, farmers cultivating paddy, mangoes, and spices were struggling without irrigation water due to stalled canal modernization projects and unfulfilled demands for new check dams along local river systems.

Stalin pledged that a DMK government will fight for GST relief for beedi manufacturing, fulfill the long-pending demand to create Tenkasi as a new revenue district, and upgrade agricultural infrastructure.
