DMK president M.K. Stalin launched a stinging indictment against both the central BJP government and the state AIADMK administration for their callous neglect of families devastated by Cyclone Gaja. Stalin stated that hundreds of thousands of farmers, coconut growers, and fisherfolk across Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, and Pudukkottai had lost their homes, livestock, and lifelong livelihood assets, yet the ruling authorities showed absolute apathy toward their prolonged suffering.
Stalin highlighted how Prime Minister Narendra Modi refused to even visit the disaster-affected districts or meet grieving families, demonstrating Delhi's total disdain for the Tamil people. Worse still, Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami arrived days late in a helicopter, conducting perfunctory aerial surveys without interacting with distressed rural communities on the ground. The state government submitted diluted damage estimates and utterly failed to secure legitimate national disaster relief funds, while meager compensation announced for fallen coconut trees remained largely unpaid due to bureaucratic red tape.
Stalin declared that rulers who abandoned citizens in their darkest hour of natural catastrophe had forfeited every moral right to govern. He appealed to voters to oust both regimes on April 18.
