DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed an extensive election campaign rally in Arani parliamentary constituency, mobilizing support for the Secular Progressive Alliance candidate. Stalin highlighted Arani's historical reputation as a vibrant hub of traditional silk handloom weaving, noting that thousands of artisanal families depended on handloom cooperatives and small textile units for their survival.
Stalin criticized the AIADMK state government and the central BJP regime for crippling the handloom weaving cluster through the ill-conceived imposition of GST on yarn and silk fabrics. Skyrocketing raw material costs, inadequate yarn subsidies, and delayed cooperative payments had forced numerous powerloom and handloom units to shut down, plunging traditional weaving communities into severe indebtedness. In addition, rural agriculturists across Tiruvannamalai district were reeling under falling paddy and groundnut prices, depleted groundwater aquifers, and stalled lift irrigation projects neglected by state ministers.
Stalin promised that a DMK-supported progressive central government will completely abolish GST on handloom products, establish modern silk processing parks, and revitalize agricultural irrigation across Arani. He urged voters to support the Secular Progressive Alliance decisively on April 18 under the Rising Sun to restore regional economic vitality.
