DMK president M.K. Stalin addressed an extensive election campaign rally in Erode parliamentary constituency, campaigning for Secular Progressive Alliance candidate A. Ganeshamurthi of the MDMK contesting on the Rising Sun symbol. Stalin spoke on the proud history of Erode as the birthplace of Thanthai Periyar, emphasizing that the district had always championed rationalist politics, industrial enterprise, and social equality.
Stalin criticized the state AIADMK government for neglecting the acute distress of Erode's turmeric farmers, who had long demanded the establishment of a dedicated Turmeric Research Centre and a fair minimum support price. In addition, the textile and dyeing industries across the district were suffering under complex zero-liquid discharge norms lacking government subsidy support, alongside high GST rates on yarn. Pollution in the Bhavani and Kalingarayan canals remained unaddressed, threatening public health and agriculture. Stalin condemned local ministers for indifference toward the closure of hundreds of small industrial units.
Stalin pledged that a DMK administration will support turmeric growers, provide modern zero-discharge common effluent treatment plants, and protect water bodies. He urged voters to support the Rising Sun on April 18.
