DMK president M.K. Stalin announced a transformative policy commitment, stating that upon assuming office, the DMK-led government will waive jewel loans pledged up to forty grams (five sovereigns) in cooperative banks by landless agricultural laborers and poor rural families. Stalin confirmed that this vital welfare measure was officially incorporated into the DMK election manifesto to provide immediate financial relief to the most impoverished rural workers.

Stalin explained that landless farm workers and marginalized daily wage earners had suffered immense economic distress due to repeated monsoon failures, agrarian stagnation, and sudden shocks like demonetization. Having no cultivable land to offer as collateral, millions of rural families were forced to pledge small personal gold ornaments—often traditional wedding mangalsutras and family heirlooms—in primary agricultural cooperative societies simply to afford food, healthcare, and children's school fees.
